We welcome Penrith to Warwick road in what will surely be an enthralling and competitive match, as they usually are between the sides. Penrith have crossed the Pennines this season leaving North One East to ply their trade in the North West. They finished joint third in that league last season, with a couple of matches getting away from them at the end of the season. They had a rude introduction to life in North One West when they came up against a large Stockport side last week at Winters Park. It looks like the Cheshire side have indeed managed to clone Dean Schofield, and by all accounts have 7 lookalikes in their pack this year.
Penrith will for sure be looking to get their first points, but Carlisle looked the business against De La Salle, who also got a rude introduction into this league last weekend, and will want to keep the momentum going.
This will be the first time that the Warwick Road faithful will see new Player Coach Matt Shields in action following his return home. It will also be the home debuts for centre Chris Auld and fullback Grant Connon, after successful seasons at National One side Darlington Mowden Park. Chris was formerly captain at DMP last season as well as being a former Scotland under20s player and former captain of the Scotland under 18s.
Grant, who has played for Ireland Clubs u18s, finished last season on a high with selection for England Counties on their trip to Romania.
Their experience is adding to the pot of what is becoming a very talented squad of players at Carlisle, and it will be an interesting season following the Warwick road side in their league campaign.
We welcome match and shirt sponsors SBS today. Without our sponsors we would struggle to put on rugby of the quality and standard we do,at all levels, and we appreciate all the help and support they give us. We hope they enjoy their day with us.
