Colts on show at Warwick Road this weekend

Phil Healy8 Sep 2016 - 08:17

Tasty local derby against Austin Friars at 1pm Saturday 10 September

The action at Warwick Road this Saturday focuses on our newly re-established Colts side who entertain local school Austin Friars 1st XV in what has become in recent years a regular season starter.

Whilst it is the first outing for Friars this season our Colts have already played twice. We are still looking for a first win having gone down narrowly to Penrith and Percy Park, although both performances hinted at greater things to come. Friars are sure to feature a number of players who play at Carlisle when they can so there are a few friendships to be renewed.

This is a real chance to see our players of the future here in Carlisle. KO is 1pm and all support welcome.

Friars coaching team of Jeremy Tiffen and Bill Laidlaw are well known down at Warwick Road having been long involved with the youth coaching setup and been part of the senior coaching team in the past.

This is also a chance for players and supporters to see our own Ben Blain in refereeing action. Ben is currently a Level 3 referee and fast rising up the National Panel. He recently featured in the televised Premiership Sevens competition from Kingston Park. It is our luck that he has no allocated game this weekend so he has offered to come and officiate this match on Saturday.

On the road the 1st XV look to continue their encouraging start to the season at Trafford MV whilst the Crusaders open their league campaign at St Benedicts Ravens.

Sunday afternoon sees Cougars league action return to Warwick Road as the Ladies entertain Birkenhead Park. Before that the U14s entertain Penrith in the morning whilst the U15s travel to Durham City.
