The start of another season, and Carlisle took the opportunity of this preseason friendly to test out some player combinations, as we welcomed a number of new additions to the squad.
Playing with the wind at their backs, Carlisle soon opened the scoring on 7minutes with a try from Chris Auld, as he broke through a number of tackles to go under by the posts.
Peebles though quickly struck back as they used their pace in the backs to break through Carlisle's defence for an unconverted try.
Max Connon sniped over from the back of a ruck just short of the line, for Carlisle's second, just before the end of the first period of play, but Peebles quickly answered that with another unconverted try of their own.
James Telford and Max Connon then added another couple of tries before the end of the second period of play, to put Carlisle 28-10 up at half time.
The second half saw a complete change in the pack for Carlisle as new and returning players were given a chance of a run out.
Ben Purdham extended Carlisle's lead on 50 minutes, but Peebles very quickly cancelled that out with their third try.
The replacement front row then got on the scoresheet, with tries for John Short and Angus Fulton in quick succession around the hour mark, effectively killing off the game for Peebles. As the Scots started to run out of steam, Dan Holmes and James Telford added to the try count for Carlisle to end the match.
A good first competitive run out for the senior squad, with new and old faces blending together to provide an entertaining match.
Next week we entertain Scottish Premiership side Hawick at Warwick road. Kick off 3pm
