Teamwork and Commitment from Carlisle

It was a very shaky start by Carlisle with Northern scoring the first two tries, but Carlisle did not let their heads drop, re-orginised themselves and set to pulling back the deficit.

Myles Kasiera led the way by example and won a vital breakdown to make a break for the Northern try line. He then expertly fed Jak Quinn who went over to sore his first try of the day.

The forwards started putting in more excellent work at the breakdown which lead to Jack making another break and passing to Joel to score the first of his two tries on the left wing.

Joel's second try was all down to him and his pace and brilliant balanced running at speed which took him half the length of the pitch for Carlisle to go in 3 – 2 up at half time.

During half time captain Joe Edmondson gave a rousing team talk which inspired his team mates to come out for the second half fired up and ready to take the game to Northern. With Nathan Bell, Stan Baglee and Todd Lightfoot running hard and straight at the Northern defence and pushing Northern further and further back. It was after some great work from these lads that led to space for stand off Jak to score the fourth try from a run up the middle of the pitch.

Northern started to fight back hard and twice they were over the Carlisle line only to be held up and driven back by the Carlisle lads showing some real grit and determination and eventually Josh Hope turning the ball over and feeding Jak to score an excellent breakaway try.

Northern were not finished yet and pulled one back to make it 5-3.

Joe Edmondson, playing at scrum half, started to drive his forwards on and Carlisle spent the final 5 minutes camped in Northern’s half, with excellent ball retention from Nathan Bell and inspired tackling and pressure from Okan Akdeniz. It was after all the teams hard work that Josh Blain was offloaded the ball and flew over the line for Carlisle’s final try, just before the final whistle.

Final score 6-3 to Carlisle.

Most pleasing for the coaches was to see the training ground work we had done on kick receiving and kick chasing really paying dividends, as this is new to the boys this season. 6 kicks received (2 by Jonny Davies and 4 by Josh Hope) and all of them caught on the full and the ball taken all the way back into the Northern half each time. Excellent.

All the boys played exceptionally well as individuals but more importantly they played for each other as a team.

Excellent sportsmanship and hospitality by Northern. A great morning out.
