The Carlisle under 11 team made their way to Kendal on this beautiful Sunday morning. The air was crisp, the skies were blue and the sun was shining. A huge turn out had meant the car park filled early and there was plenty of vocal support for our teams.

Carlisle fielded two teams and each played two matches against the Kendal Hornets.

Match 1
The first match was a tight affair with a lot of good at tackling and rucking.
There was plenty of good rugby and the defenses were holding firm.

Carlisle’s first try came after some sustained pressure and good rucking from the forwards. Carlisle kept the pressure on winning two rucks in a row before passing the ball to the backs. Joel scored an excellent try for the team in the corner.

However, the game was tight and Kendal came back to quickly to score one of their own to make it one try all.

Myles Kssiera restored the lead for Carlisle after a powerful run up the middle.

Kendal next scored a breakaway try down the right wing to bring the score to two tries all.
There was a lot of very tight rugby being played with good tackling from our team.

In the final moments of the match Kendal scored again to win the match 3:2.

It is a very tight match that could have gone either way. All boys played very well.

Match 2

Kendal took early lead, but Carlisle came back strongly and from the kick off. At a ruck in the centre of the Kendal half Carlisle recycled the ball Jonny Davies picked up and ran in evading the defence to score a try.

Kendal came back strongly and Carlisle had to put up a strong defensive effort. Daniel broke out of defence running to the left, he switched with Joe Edmondson running on the angle. Joe went on the full length of the pitch to score a magnificent try.

Carlisle held on to win 2:1

Match 3
This was another closely fought affair. Carlisle attacked at first but then Kendal broke out of defence down their left wing. Joe Edmondson covered the attack and put in the big try saving tackle.

Kendal found some rhythm and started to make some good linking play, passing the ball wide. They cut back inside and exploited a gap in the centre of our defence and went through to score.

Josh Blain brought Carlisle back into the game with a direct run to the try line.

Kendal kept the pressure up and when Carlisle missed a couple of tackles they broke through to score.

Carlisle managed to get one back to even the match right at the end. A draw was probably a good result.

Match 4

Kendal kicked off but John caught the ball on the full and made 15-20 metres with a powerful run with half of the Keswick team hanging off him.

John passed it out and Carlisle scored their first try of this match.

Carlisle’s second try came from a move down the left side, the ball was swept down the line to Joel on the right who used his pace before dummying two players and diving over to score through the gap.

After a period of Pressure in the Kendal half Stan used is power to score Carlisle’s third try.

Carlisle’s next try came from Okan who ran down the left wing avoiding the touch line, and managed to score in the corner.
Kendal attacked strongly after this try and Carlisle used their resilience to keep the attacks out.

Guy scored the final try for Carlisle. The final score was 5:0.

Across the 2 Carlisle teams we had 5 very inexperienced players and it was remarkable to see how they improved over the course of the morning. A great learning and enjoyable experience for all of them.
