The U13s got 2014 to a winning start when Morpeth braved the journey across the A69, for which we are grateful. Morpeth were quick to show that they were not going to be a pushover after the heavy defeat on the opening day of the season, and Carlisle defence had to be alert from the kick off. Good mauling and rucking resulted in Carlisle grinding their way down the pitch with Oliver Ord going in at the corner flag to open up the score, and get his first for the season. With some crowd pleasing storming runs from Ethan 'The Bull' Styles, Carlisle were quickly threatening the try line again and Theo Manihera's jinxed his way over for a try.

As in the first game, Morpeth were not ones for letting their heads drop and were next to score a try. A good storming run from Jay Nugent brought Carlisle's next try, when he reached over for a try on his debut after being hauled down just short of the line.

The second half brought a first try of the season for Matthew White, who so often just misses out, when he broke from the half way line, and ran for the corner with Morpeth in close pursuit. Back came Morpeth for their second of the match before Nathan Greenhow got in on the act with his own great break and try by the corner flag. Elliot Turner also went close when a sprint for the line was stopped by a high tackle. Morpeth closed the game out with a try and first conversion of the match bringing the game to a close.

Throughout the game Carlisle's attacking was strong with the ball regularly getting to the wings - critical on a cold day. Whilst there were a few nominees for Man of the Match, the honours were given to pack leader Lawrence Wilson who worked tirelessly in the forwards.
